Scale Models and Wood Crafts

About the Artist

Working with wood is quite a satisfying experience for me. I began making miniatures as a result of just making gifts and surprises for my family. My first experiment was a gag gift for my mother in Colorado after we had moved to Florida. It was a house with a very large cockroach on the roof and inscribed on the base was a sign “Welcome to Florida.” This was a fun project and I began to look for more interesting and challenging projects. Lee working on a Scale ModelMy first real challenge was a model of the home where my dad was raised. I also had good memories of this home since we visited there when I was a young boy. It was constructed from pictures that my mother had. This particular project, I decided to finish on the inside with rooms and furniture. It is featured in my list of inventory. As time progressed, I made models of the first houses that my children purchased as gifts for them. These can also be seen as pictured. I enjoy building models that have significance for individuals and have done six projects for the Altamonte Springs Historical Society and they are on display in the Altamonte Springs Library, Altamonte Springs, FL. These replicas are also featured in this portfolio.

I especially enjoy making the models as close to the original as possible (stained glass, brick work, lattice work, unique artistic woodworking, etc.)

Making pleasant memories come to life is one of my goals and recreations of the past or present can become a legacy passed through the generations.
