Scale Models and Wood Crafts

The Jasmine Theater-Club

A businessman from Boston who had a cottage in Altamonte Springs and wanted a place for his wife to entertain friends built the first theater in Altamonte Springs in the1890's.
The theater was converted into a home in the 1930's and is still in use as a home today. The front had been changed, so it was necessary to go back into the archives for pictures of the original structure. The brick skirting at the base of this model was a particular challenge. It was made by cutting individual bricks from 1/8" basswood and reassembling to get the particular pattern. The red brick supports were carved from blocks of redwood. To achieve the asphalt look for the roof, I mixed sawdust with the paint. The scale is 1" = 3'. This model is in the Altamonte Springs Library, Altamonte Springs, FL.
